Panthers to offer Football Mom workshop

Posted Jun 27, 2011

Football Moms, here is your chance to get more into the game while watching your child from the sideline.

The Carolina Panthers, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Athletics Department and OrthoCarolina have teamed up to offer Football Mom 101, a fun and free clinic designed to increase the football I.Q. of moms of youth, middle and high school football players. Football Mom 101 will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the Red Zone at Bank of America Stadium.

The program will feature instruction from a local high school coach and game officials and will cover topics including:

• Rules
• Equipment
• Safety
• Nutrition
• Injury care from an OrthoCarolina doctor
• Advice from a real Football Mom

To register for Football Mom 101, please complete the Football Mom 101 registration form. Completed forms can be mailed to the Carolina Panthers Community Relations Department, Attn.: Football Mom 101, 800 South Mint Street, Charlotte, NC, 28202, or faxed to 704-358-7618.

The registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 8 and is limited to the first 200 moms to register. All schools or athletic associations with moms in attendance will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 donation to the school's athletic department or youth football program from Carolina Panthers Charities.

"Football Mom 101 is a fun, engaging and informative program that teaches moms football basics," said Riley Fields, Carolina Panthers director of community relations. "In addition to the learning experience, the most important aspect of the program is that it helps moms share in the joy and excitement that football gives to their children."

This is the sixth time that the Panthers and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have hosted Football Mom 101.

"The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools value our partnership with the Carolina Panthers, and we are thrilled that Football Mom 101 is back," said Sue Doran, interim director of athletics for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. "The event is a fun and engaging morning that our football moms rave about all season long."
