Open Rehearsals - Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to the start of rehearsal. Candidates will be divided into sectionals and run through a technical warm-up. Then candidates will be taught pieces by PurrCussion instructors. A different piece will be taught at each rehearsal, and candidates will be evaluated during preliminaries on their knowledge of each piece. Participants are welcome and encouraged to audition for more than one instrument.
Preliminaries - Preliminaries will consist of a performance of pieces taught during open rehearsals before a panel of judges with additional exercises to showcase the overall musicianship, presentation and showmanship of each candidate. All candidates will also interview with PurrCussion staff during preliminaries. This meeting will include a review of the responsibilities of becoming a member of the PurrCussion drumline.
Finals - Finals will consist of a performance of a piece taught at the final rehearsal on May 10 and open Q&A by a panel of Panthers and PurrCussion staff alongside special guest judges. Candidates may be asked to perform a solo showcase piece that reflects their style and personality to aid in the judges' evaluation if necessary.
