ON WHETHER THE KNEE OR SHOULDER FORCED OTAH TO THE SIDELINE LATE SUNDAY: Actually, the shoulder was why he came out of the game.
ON IF HE KNOWS THE SEVERITY OF OTAH'S INJURY: Not at this point. We'll keep you guys posted.
ON WHETHER STEWART'S INJURED TOE IS THE SAME ONE THAT BOTHERED HIM IN 2008: To my knowledge, yes. All I know is it's his toe; I don't know if it's the same one as (before).
ON QUARTERBACK JAKE DELHOMME'S STATUS: Again, day-to-day. He'll get treatment today and tomorrow and we'll figure it out Wednesday.
ON IF THERE'S A LEGITIMATE CHANCE OF DELHOMME PLAYING SUNDAY: As our medical staff tells me and I tell you, it's day-to-day.
ON WHETHER HE WOULD WANT TO INSERT DELHOMME IF HE WAS AVAILABLE GIVEN THE PANTHERS' RECORD: Like all players, whether it's safety, linebacker or quarterback, when guys are available and healthy, you practice, evaluate them and go with who you think gives you the best chance to win. It's all hypothetical, so it's hard for me to answer that at this point.
ON MATT MOORE'S PROGRESS: I think there's a lot of things we still need to work on. I think he did some things (well) and there's some things he can improve on -- typical of a young quarterback.
ON WHETHER HIS PERCEPTION OF MOORE HAS BEEN CHANGED BY THE QUARTERBACK'S PLAY THE LAST TWO WEEKS: It's kind of been the same ... Everything I've talked about before: he's an athletic guy; he's got good mobility; he can make all the throws. I think he has a strong arm. He's shown an ability to throw the deep ball. There's some game mechanics and execution that we need to continue to improve, and I think that has a chance to happen with experience.
ON THE ILLEGAL FORMATION AND ILLEGAL SHIFT PENALTIES IN SUNDAY'S LOSS: We didn't line up right a couple of times, who was on (and) who was off, being set as we (identified) certain formations. It was just a lack of execution overall.
ON WHETHER THE PENALTIES ARE ULTIMATELY A COMMUNICATION ISSUE FROM THE QUARTERBACK CALLING SIGNALS: Offense is assignment football, and you have to be consistent with the execution of your assignments. We didn't do that as well as we needed to, and that contributed to us losing the game.
ON IF STEVE SMITH WILL BE USED IN DIFFERENT WAYS AFTER TAKING A WILDCAT SNAP AND RUNNING AN END-AROUND SUNDAY: We've used him in those ways pretty much the whole season. He is one of our playmakers and we try to involve him as much as we can. Even some of those motions are designed for that, so people can't be on him.
ON WHETHER HE HOPED SMITH'S MOVEMENT WOULD SPARK THE OFFENSE SUNDAY: Well, we've actually run that before. Yesterday wasn't our first time, either with the (end-around) or him (in the Wildcat).
ON IF THERE'S MORE LOOKS WITH SMITH THAT CAN BE SHOWN: I haven't gotten heavily into Minnesota yet, but as we go forward, it's all possible. We'll get this game cleaned up -- we're not done with that yet -- and then we'll move on to Minnesota and work on some new things.
ON JULIUS PEPPERS'S PLAY SUNDAY: I thought Julius rushed the passer well. He had about five quarterback hurries. (The Patriots') passing game gets rid of the ball fast. I thought all in all our pass defense was pretty good. We could have done a little better. I thought we were outstanding on third down; they only converted three of (11). I was a little disappointed in our run defense, but if you go back through the record books, I'm not sure how many games they've been held to 20 and won, but I guarantee you there's not too many times where someone scored 10 and beat them.
ON THE IMPEDIMENTS TO THE OFFENSE'S LACK OF SCORING: It's not been one thing; it's been a combination. We're without some key guys; it's not like wholesale changes. But our struggles in the passing game continue. I think we've run the ball pretty consistently. Contrary to popular belief I'd like to be able to throw the ball better. The reality is we haven't. There is a lot of moving parts. I don't think it's just the quarterback. That's easy to sit and be critical of. Sometimes I think it's been protection; sometimes I think it's been routes; sometimes I think it's been the throw. That's kind of where it is, and all we can do is try to improve it.
I was asked yesterday about the two-minute drill (at the end of the first half). The very first play we were very fortunate that we didn't get sacked. Two plays later, we throw what looked like a would-be interception that could have helped set up another score. So at that point I think we were going to be satisfied. In fact, they used two timeouts there at the end. Am I happy about that? No, but that's what it is, and you try to do the things you can the best you can to win.
ON WHETHER HE WOULD CONSIDER PLAYING A QUARTERBACK OTHER THAN MOORE OR DELHOMME IN THE LAST THREE GAMES: It's hard to look into the crystal ball, but we'll get this game behind us, learn from it and move on. Players are off tomorrow, and we'll get into our Vikings work. When we form back up Wednesday we'll look at our best options.
ON WHY NA'IL DIGGS DRESSED BUT DID NOT PLAY: He wasn't 100 percent healthy; he didn't start. We don't have a long list of backups at the linebacker position that are familiar with what we're doing defensively. ![]()

ON HOW DAN CONNOR PLAYED REPLACING DIGGS AT STRONGSIDE LINEBACKER: I thought he was productive. Like all young players, they make a couple of errors. Defensively, not that it was perfect by any stretch, but all-in-all - Dan included - they gave us a chance.
ON IF HE NOTICED PATRIOTS WIDE RECEIVER RANDY MOSS NOT FINISHING PLAYS: That's not my job to evaluate him. They won.
ON CORNERBACK CHRIS GAMBLE'S PERFORMANCE: I thought Chris had one of his better games yesterday. He made a nice play on the interception on the out route. I thought he made a couple pretty good tackles. So I thought all-in-all he had a pretty good outing.
ON WHETHER GAMBLE IS DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY THE LAST FEW GAMES: Defensively, we had three takeaways. Lately the defense is taking the ball away; our takeaways are pretty much up there. All of them - whether it's ![]()

ON WHY THE DEFENSE HAS FORCED SO MANY TURNOVERS RECENTLY: They come in droves. It's guys being around the ball. It's guys being in the right position. Sometimes there is an element of luck involved. But all-in-all I think a little more comfort zone in what we're doing and how we're doing it and getting into the flow of a season with a new defense.
