SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- With a soccer-esque kick of his helmet across the end zone Monday night, Steve Smith showed his anger, and no one could blame him after he landed hard and injured his shoulder during a one-on-one drill.

X-rays on the shoulder were negative.

"You just want to wait and make sure everything is okay," General Manager Marty Hurney said on Panther Talk just after the practice. "I'm sure we'll have more information tomorrow."

Smith had left the field less than halfway through the session, being taken to the Richardson Building on the back of a cart.

Middle linebacker Jon Beason returned to the field for the first time since aggravating a strained hamstring in the first practice of training camp seven days earlier ...

... Running back DeAngelo Williams also returned to action; he'd been sidelined since late in last Friday's practice with a toe injury suffered during a short-yardage drill.

... Weakside linebacker Thomas Davis (knee) remained sidelined, and fellow linebacker Landon Johnson did not practice. James Anderson worked with the first team on the weak side ...

... Wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad and running back Jonathan Stewart both did not practice; they remain on the one-session per day schedule ...

... Offensive lineman C.J. Davis (ankle) and safety Nate Salley (knee) remained sidelined.

6:42 P.M. EDT: A blanket of clouds has quickly made the evening downright pleasant.

7:29 P.M. EDT: Just concluded a team period ... which closed w/ a Mortty Ivy INT of a Cantwell shovel pass.

7:55 P.M. EDT: Jamall Lee on back to back plays: 1st he fumbled (and recovered); 2nd he scored after doubling back across the field (as pictured above).

8:01 P.M. EDT: Chris Gamble INT ... Delhomme looked for Ryne Robinson; Gamble had tight coverage; won the duel for the ball.

8:10 P.M. EDT: Ron Meeks preaches for players to keep pursuing. Corvey Irvin does just that, catching up to Mike Goodson downfield after a grab.

C.J. Wilson's tight defense scuttles a pass to Dwayne Jarrett.

Neither Quinton Teal (26) nor Jason Carter can get to this pass.

Ivy gets a hold of fullback Tony Fiammetta -- or at least part of his attire.

It looks like Gary Barnidge has an acrobatic catch ...
... but Na'il Diggs stayed with the play, and poked loose the football.

One practice Tuesday, at 3:10 p.m. EDT.
