Panthers make some practice squad changes

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made some changes to the practice squad Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers signed quarterback James Morgan.

A former fourth-round pick of the Jets from Florida International, he gives them a third quarterback for practice behind starter Sam Darnold and backup P.J. Walker.

They also signed wide receiver Aaron Parker to the practice squad earlier in the day. The former Rhode Island standout was on the Cowboys' practice squad last season.

The Panthers also released cornerback Rashaan Melvin from the practice squad. The veteran had been with them all offseason, and was at practice this week after signing to the practice squad, but could find other opportunities on active rosters.

That leaves them with 13 members of the practice squad, leaving three openings to fill.
