Week 9 Final Injury Report: Sam Darnold questionable

InjuryReport-week9_shaq

CHARLOTTE — The status of Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold remains unclear, as he's still in the concussion protocol.

Darnold was listed as a limited participant in Friday's walk-through, and he's listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

He will have to be cleared by an independent neurologist before he's able to play, after suffering a concussion in last week's win over the Falcons. He also suffered a shoulder injury in that game.

Reserve cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver III (toe) didn't participate in Friday's walk-through and he's also listed as questionable.

Just-activated guard Pat Elflein (hamstring) is the only other player with an injury status for the game, and he was listed as a full participant and is questionable for the game.

Otherwise, the rest of the players on the report were listed as full participants, and have no injury issues that would keep them out this week.

That includes veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson (foot), whose return helped spark the defense last week after he had missed the previous three games.

Also listed as full participants Friday were cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore (quad) and CJ Henderson (shoulder), left tackle Cameron Erving (knee), center Matt Paradis (knee), and linebacker Jermaine Carter Jr. (ankle).

Running back Christian McCaffrey was on the practice field Friday, but he hasn't been activated to the 53-man roster yet. He hasn't played since Week 3 because of a hamstring injury. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Saturday's practice would give them a better indication of McCaffrey's availability, but said he was "hopeful" the running back could return.
