CHARLOTTE - Safety Marcus Ball, who spent last season with the New Orleans Saints, has signed with the Panthers.

To make room on the 90-man roster, Carolina waived safety Kimario McFadden, who spent the final four weeks of the 2014 regular season and the postseason on the Panthers' practice squad.

Ball was one of three players released by the Saints earlier this month when they signed 13 undrafted rookie free agents. The 6-1, 209-pounder played in 12 games last year and started two games as an extra defensive back. He recorded 12 tackles in 12 games and added nine special teams tackles.

After starting his college career at Florida State and ending it at Memphis, Ball played two seasons for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. He recorded 142 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries before signing with the Saints last offseason.
