Fantasy Football Fun: Week 7

Another week, another leader. And another reminder that winning games for real and winning in fantasy aren't the same thing.

Josh Klein of the Riot Report powered his way from sixth overall to the top spot riding the efforts of quarterback Jameis Winston and running back Saquon Barkley, even as the Buccaneers and Giants lost their games. Klein is the fourth overall leader in six weeks.

The Week 1 leader rose from the ashes and actually topped Klein for the top week – and in her case, players on winning teams keyed her success. WCNC-TV sports anchor Kelsey Riggs had fallen on hard times but jetted from last to third overall with a week paced by Sunday winners Matt Ryan, Todd Gurley and James Conner. Both Riggs and Klein topped 100 points in the scoring system, something that had been accomplished a total of four times through the contest's first five weeks.

This week, I start my lineup with one of the more overlooked duos in fantasy football. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins quietly is fifth at his position to date, and top target Adam Thielen is second among receivers. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and receiver Tyreek Hill of the Chiefs rank first at their respective spots, but I'll look for another spot to take them. Minnesota's opponent this week, the Jets, have been vulnerable to passing attacks to date. In daily fantasy, "stacking" Cousins and Thielen this week could be a profitable move.

At running back, I'm going with rookie sensation Saquon Barkley against a floundering Falcons defense. Barkley has been productive against good defenses as well, ranking third in fantasy at running back behind only Gurley and Melvin Gordon. I'm also rolling with Bears back Tarik Cohen, a change-of-pace back that's doing more than that so far and faces a beatable Patriots defense. Cohen could present a value in daily fantasy as well, particularly if it's a points-per-reception system – so far he's outscored Bears starter Jordan Howard even in non-PPR scoring leagues.

Receiver Tyler Boyd of the Bengals has been a fantasy find in season-long leagues for owners who picked him late in drafts or maybe even off the waiver wire. At tight end, Greg Olsen showed signs of finding his fantasy form again in his return to the lineup last week, and he's far and away the most popular Panther pick in our little contest this week.
