Panthers place safety Juston Burris on injured reserve

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added the offensive line depth they needed, while losing another member of the secondary.

The Panthers placed safety Juston Burris on injured reserve Tuesday. To fill his spot on the roster, they signed center Sam Tecklenburg from the practice squad.

Tecklenburg has been promoted from the practice squad for all three games this year (once as a COVID-19 replacement for John Miller, twice as a standard elevation). He had reached the limit of those promotions, and they needed him on the 53-man roster anyway.

With Pat Elflein on IR with a hamstring injury, Tecklenburg's the backup center to Matt Paradis.

Burris left last week's win over the Texans with a groin injury. Going on IR means he'll be out for at least three weeks.

He joins cornerback Jaycee Horn and nickel Myles Hartsfield on IR after three weeks of the season, creating some depth issues on defense.

To replace Burris in the lineup, they'll look to the group including Sean Chandler and Sam Franklin Jr..

They also signed cornerback Madre Harper to the practice squad.
