CHARLOTTE – The Panthers placed right tackle Daryl Williams on injured reserve Wednesday and signed Chris Clark, a tackle with extensive starting experience.
The team announced Tuesday that Williams, an All-Pro in 2017, would undergo surgery for a knee injury suffered in Carolina's season-opening victory over the Cowboys. With Matt Kalil already on injured reserve, second-year player Taylor Moton (starting in Kalil's spot) and Corey Robinson were the only players listed as tackles on the 53-man roster – though Amini Silatolu slid over from guard when Williams went down. The Panthers traded for Robinson on September 1.
Clark, a 6-foot-5, 305-pounder, was the Texans' starting left tackle for eight games last season before an ankle injury landed him on injured reserve. Undrafted out of Southern Mississippi in 2008, Clark spent his first two NFL seasons on the Vikings practice squad but began to flourish with the Broncos in 2010, playing in 69 games with 27 starts over the next five seasons. He then spent the past three years in Houston, playing in 37 games with 26 starts.
Clark started games at both left and right tackle for both teams, most recently seeing time as a starter on the right side with the Texans in 2016.
