INDIANAPOLIS — The Panthers are sitting all their starters today after two days of joint workouts with the Colts, which leaves a number of rookies sliding into the starting lineup for today's preseason opener.
Second-round wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. and fourth-round running back Chuba Hubbard will be among the starters on offense today.
Third-rounders Tommy Tremble and Brady Christensen will also start on offense, along with sixth-round guard Deonte Brown.
Fifth-round defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon will start as well.
The middle linebacker spot will be held by veteran Josh Bynes, who practiced for the first time with the team on Thursday.
The following starters did not dress: Sam Darnold, Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, Dan Arnold, Ian Thomas, Cameron Erving, Pat Elflein, Matt Paradis, John Miller, Taylor Moton, Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, DaQuan Jones, Morgan Fox, Shaq Thompson, Jermaine Carter, Haason Reddick, Donte Jackson, Jaycee Horn, Jeremy Chinn, and Juston Burris.
In addition to the starters, the Panthers held out a few players who picked up injuries over the course of the week in Indiana, including running backs Reggie Bonnafon and Rodney Smith, linebacker Nate Hall, center Mike Panasiuk, and defensive tackle Caraun Reid.
Seven players didn't travel with the team: Wide receiver Keith Kirkwood, cornerback A.J. Bouye, safety Myles Hartsfield, linebackers Julian Stanford, Denzel Perryman, Clay Johnston, and offensive lineman Dennis Daley.
