CHARLOTTE - Wide receiver and return specialist Kaelin Clay has signed a one-year contract with the Panthers.

Clay, a sixth-round draft pick by the Buccaneers in 2015, doesn't have a regular season reception but has made a splash in the return game. After stints on the Tampa Bay and Detoit practice squads as a rookie, the Ravens signed him, and he responded with an 82-yard punt return touchdown in his second career game.

In seven games with the Ravens in 2015, he paced the team with 23 punt returns for 244 yards and 14 kick returns for 343 yards. The 5-10, 200-pounder's 10.6 yards per punt return ranked fourth in the NFL.

Clay suffered a foot injury last preseason and was eventually waived from injured reserve. He was a first-team All-America as a return speicalist for Utah in 2014 after scoring touchdowns on three punt returns and one kickoff return.

Ted Ginn, Jr., the Panthers' primary return man last season, signed with the Saints last month.
