Panthers finalize practice squad with three signings, one release

Jaden Crumedy

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers filled out their practice squad Thursday evening by signing three more players and releasing one getting them to the in-season limit of 17.

The team brought back defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy, after he cleared waivers Thursday afternoon.

They also signed running back DeeJay Dallas and cornerback Kalen King.

To make room for them on the roster, they released cornerback Shemar Bartholomew from the practice squad.

Crumedy, last year's sixth-round pick, was initially part of the team's 53-man roster on Tuesday, but was waived Wednesday after they claimed two players.

Dallas has background with Panthers head coach Dave Canales. A former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks, he adds versatility and special teams pedigree.

"A high-character guy, a great teammate, a jack of all trades," Canales said of him earlier this week.

King was a seventh-round pick of the Packers in 2024 out of Penn State, who spent last year on the practice squad.

On Wednesday, they added the first 13 players to the practice squad, all of whom were here in training camp. They included linebacker Krys Barnes, cornerback Shemar Bartholomew, outside linebacker Boogie Basham, defensive end Jared Harrison-Hunte, offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston, linebacker Mapalo Mwansa, tight end Bryce Pierre, wide receiver Ja'seem Reed, cornerback Michael Reid, defensive tackle Sam Roberts, offensive tackle Michael Tarquin, safety Trevian Thomas, and offensive lineman Brandon Walton.

They signed quarterback Hendon Hooker and wide receiver Ainias Smith earlier Thursday.

Mwansa does not count toward the normal 16-player limit, an exemption since he's part of the league's International Player Pathway program.

Last year, 13 of the 16 players on the practice squad in Week 1 were active for at least one game with the team.
