CHARLOTTE - The Panthers continued to strengthen their secondary in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, adding Tennessee safety Rashaan Gaulden with the 85th overall pick.

The Panthers then traded their second third-round selection, No. 88, to the Packers in exchange a fourth-round and a fifth-round pick to come Saturday - Nos. 101 and 147. The 101st pick is the first pick of the draft's final day. Carolina now holds one pick in the fourth (101), two in the fifth (147 and 161), one in the sixth (197) and two in the seventh (234 and 242).

The 6-foot-1, 197-pound Gaulden has experience at safety and both at outside and nickel corner. General manager Marry Hurney said he will compete for a role in a safety group headed by veteran Mike Adams that parted ways with Kurt Coleman and added Da'Norris Searcy in the offseason.

Gaulden makes consecutive second-day picks in the defensive backfield after Carolina selected LSU cornerback Donte Jackson in the second round (55th overall). They join wide receiver DJ Moore, chosen with the 24th pick in the first round, on Carolina's roster.
