The game is again in Charlotte because it was held in Pittsburgh in both 2014 and 2015 to accommodate a college game being played at Bank of America Stadium.

The Panthers are 43-46 all-time in preseason games, finishing at least .500 in the preseason in each of the franchise's seven playoff seasons. Carolina has gone at least .500 every preseason since 2012.

Houston and Pittsburgh were playoff teams in 2016. The Panthers lost their lone preseason meeting with the Texans in 2012. They're 2-0 against Tennessee, 3-4 against Jacksonville and 8-10 against Pittsburgh in the preseason.
