Allen and Stewart return to practice

CHARLOTTE – Running back Jonathan Stewart (ankle) and defensive end Jared Allen (foot) returned to practice in limited roles Thursday.

Head coach Ron Rivera expressed confidence in Stewart being ready to go for Sunday's NFC Championship against the Cardinals. But there is still doubt concerning Allen, who fractured his right foot in the Divisional round.

"He moved around a little bit and did some things. He looked pretty good," Rivera said. "We're waiting. We'll see how things are tomorrow."

Rivera was pleased with his team's practice performance during the two heavy work days on Wednesday and Thursday.

"It was cold, a little chilly and raining yesterday. Today it dried out and we got some sunshine for an opportunity to get some really good work in," Rivera said. "I liked the tempo. I thought the guys did a nice job. I thought their focus was outstanding. They had a lot of energy."

Snow is expected Friday morning, which could change Carolina's practice plan. But Rivera is determined to keep his team outdoors for Friday's session.

"We're going to adjust to it. We can move things up or move things back," Rivera said. "If we have to go out and practice in it, we'll practice in it."
