CHARLOTTE – Wide receiver Brenton Bersin will miss the remainder of organized team activities and minicamp after undergoing surgery on his left ankle Wednesday.

"He had a spur removed from his ankle," head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion said. "We felt like this was the best time to do it. He'll miss minicamp, but he'll be fine and ready to go for training camp."

Bersin, who posted two catches for 17 yards in 10 games last season, had been working through pain in the ankle, but it became clear that surgery was the proper course of action to give him the best opportunity to compete in what will be his sixth training camp.

"He tried to get through the conditioning program and OTAs but it started bothering him," Vermillion said. "It can develop over time from the running and cutting. It's something that he's dealt with and treated, but it wasn't going away."
