Quarterback Cam Newton has passed all the necessary tests in the NFL's concussion protocol and has been cleared to play Sunday when the Panthers take on the Saints.

Newton traveled with the team to New Orleans on Saturday. He had been in the protocol since taking a jarring hit in Carolina's loss at the Falcons in Week 4. He sat out the Panthers' game against the Buccaneers in Week 5 and was replaced in the lineup by Derek Anderson.

Running back Jonathan Stewart also is expected to return after missing three games with a hamstring injury. Both Newton and Stewart are officially listed as questionable on the injury report.
