1. New offensive coordinator Norv Turner was born in North Carolina.Turner and head coach Ron Rivera were both born into military families and both attended high school in California, but Turner was born in Camp LeJeune. Turner moved to California with his family at a young age, and family certainly will be close at hand in his latest gig. His son, Scott, could come to Carolina as quarterbacks coach, and the father-son duo of Ron and Cameron Turner were offensive consultant and assistant quarterbacks coach for the Panthers this past season. Norv and Ron Turner are brothers.

2. Turner played college football in the early 1970s at the University of Oregon, backing up future Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts before starting in 1973 and 1974. He got into coaching as a graduate assistant for the Ducks months after graduation in 1975 and coached on the collegiate or pro level every season until 2017.

3.Turner has been on coaching staffs for one college football national championship and two Super Bowl champions. In 1976, he was wide receivers coach at the University of Southern California when the Trojans earned a share of the national title. He left Southern Cal after the 1984 season and has been in the NFL ever since, first with the Rams as wide receivers coach before becoming an NFL offensive coordinator for the first time in 1991 with the Cowboys. Dallas won the Super Bowl following the 1992 and 1993 seasons.

4. After the second Super Bowl triumph, Turner went to Washington for his first-ever head coaching job (1994-2000). He was Raiders head coach from 2004-05 and Chargers head coach from 2007-12. Rivera was Turner's defensive coordinator for three seasons before taking his first-ever head coaching job with the Panthers in 2011. The Panthers are Turner's 10th NFL team.

5. Turner has been an offensive coordinator for 11 NFL seasons and a head coach for 15. All told, he coached in the NFL for 32 consecutive seasons before resigning as Vikings offensive coordinator midway through the 2016. Out of football this past season, Turner co-wrote the country song "Things I've Never Done" with singer Steven Ray, the son of former NFL head coach and current NFL analyst Steve Mariucci.
