Foxhole: Delhomme's finger slow to heal

!

Comments from Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox following the team's practice.

On roster moves: We placed quarterback Jake Delhomme on IR, brought up quarterback Hunter Cantwell (from the practice squad) and added running back Devin Moore - who played his college ball at Wyoming - to take his practice squad position.

On injuries: Did not participate: Tyrell Sutton - calf and DeAngelo Williams - ankle. Limited participation: Richard Marshall - ankle and Matt Moore - right shoulder. Full participation: Jonathan Stewart - Achilles.

On placing quarterback Jake Delhomme on injured reserve: We thought he might be further along as far as his finger. We looked at it this week as far as gripping and throwing the ball and it wasn't up to speed. So we felt we needed to get another quarterback up, and Hunter's been with us all year, so we got Hunter Cantwell up.

On Delhomme's future with the Panthers: I'm sure there's going to be a lot of talk; there usually is. But all of our focus is on the New York Giants, and after that we'll finish up with the New Orleans Saints. Then we'll evaluate everything after that, and that would be true of our whole football team.

On if Delhomme will need surgery on his broken finger: Not to my knowledge, no.

On quarterback Hunter Cantwell's progress: He's a guy we liked, obviously, because we carried four quarterbacks - even though it was a practice squad spot for most of the season. He's a guy that's shown promise and somebody worth developing. I'm not sure we anticipated doing it at this point in the season, but that's kind of where we are.
