CHARLOTTE – Running back Jonathan Stewart, who entered Sunday's game against the 49ers questionable with an ankle injury, left the game with a hamstring injury in the first half. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game at the start of the second half.

Stewart started the game and rushed five times for 9 yards. He also caught two passes for 7 yards.

He was taken to the locker room and did not return to the sideline. Fozzy Whittaker and Mike Tolbert carried the load in his absence.

When asked about the level of concern regarding Stewart's injury after the game, head coach Ron Rivera said, "A little bit. We will see how it is... I thought (Fozzy) and Mike mixed it up well.

"If (Stewart's injury) is prolonged, then we certainly will get an opportunity to see Cameron Artis-Payne out there, which I'm pretty excited about because he is a heck of a young player."
