Newton focused on getting better

CHARLOTTE – During his Wednesday press conference, quarterback Cam Newton was asked how the Panthers, fresh off consecutive victories to start the season, plan to avoid the lull that plagued them after a 2-0 start in 2014.

"We mentioned it in practice. Obviously, we've been in this situation before," Newton said. "We want to put ourselves in better situations. I keep sounding like a broken record, but we can't have any opportunities (in practice) slip away. We have to hone in and focus in.

"Winning really covers up a lot of loose ends, but we have to find those loose ends and make them better."

As the Panthers get set for their first NFC South contest, Newton knows the division-rival New Orleans Saints will present a tough challenge.

"This is a division game, so it counts, as we say, plus two," he said. "We have to be ready for a team that is extremely hungry for a win."
