Olsen, Kalil experience "Hamilton"

Greg Olsen and Ryan Kalil spent their holiday weekend in New York watching the hit Broadway musical.

CHARLOTTE - Memorial Day weekend often means pool parties, barbecues or a brief vacation from work or school. For professional football players, it's no different.

Further cementing their flourishing off-field friendship, tight end Greg Olsen and center Ryan Kalil used the holiday weekend to take a family trip to New York to watch hit Broadway musical "Hamilton."

"We went up for two nights and had a great time," said Olsen after Tuesday's OTA practice. "Just a quick little trip up there, specifically to see the show before the cast is done."

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of the show, tweeted a photo Saturday night featuring Olsen, Kalil and Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin.

Tickets for the musical have been in high demand after the show received a Pulitzer Prize, Grammy Award and a record 16 Tony Award Nominations, but Olsen and Kail were not deterred.

"You aren't getting tickets to that. You're buying them and you are earning them," Olsen said. "We went on TicketMaster and got our tickets."

Olsen and Kalil both said the hit musical exceeded expectations.

"Worth every penny. It was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had and those people are incredibly talented," Olsen said. "I've seen a lot of Broadway shows and I like them, but this was amazing."
