CHARLOTTE - The Carolina Panthers are scheduled to open preseason play in less than a month.

Carolina is slated to open the preseason at home Aug. 13 against the New York Giants and close it at home Sept. 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers – the two most common preseason opponents in franchise history.

In between, the Panthers will take on the Miami Dolphins for just the third time in the preseason before traveling to Cincinnati for their first-ever preseason meeting with the Bengals.

The Steelers and Panthers are perennial preseason partners. This will mark their 13th meeting in Carolina's 17 preseasons and will be the ninth consecutive time they've ended the preseason against each other. Pittsburgh leads the preseason series 8-4, including four consecutive victories.

The Panthers previously have faced the Giants seven times in the preseason, a series that Carolina leads 5-2. The Panthers also have met expansion brethren Jacksonville seven times in the preseason.

Carolina and Miami previously crossed paths in the preseason in 2006 and 2009, splitting their games, while Cincinnati will become the 21st different team that the Panthers have faced in the preseason.

The Panthers are 30-35 in the preseason, with just one victory in their last nine games. Carolina finished at least .500 in the preseason in each of its four playoff seasons.

The Panthers are scheduled to open the regular season on Sept. 11 at Arizona before returning for their home opener Sept. 18 against the reigning Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.
