CHARLOTTE – A day after signing free agent running back C.J. Anderson, the Panthers on Tuesday added another downhill runner.

Carolina hit the waiver wire to claim Elijah Hood, who was cut by the Raiders on Monday.

The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Hood is a Charlotte native who racked up 147 touchdowns at Charlotte Catholic before playing three seasons at UNC.

A seventh-round pick in the 2017 draft, Hood spent most of his rookie year on the Raiders' practice squad. He did dress for one game but only played eight special teams snaps in a Week 8 loss at Buffalo.

The Panthers now have six running backs in the fold: Hood, Anderson, Christian McCaffrey, Cameron Artis-Payne, Fozzy Whittaker and undrafted rookie Reggie Bonnafon.
