CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have claimed tight end Chris Manhertz off waivers from the Saints and waived cornerback Lou Young.

Manhertz, who transitioned to football after playing college basketball at Canisius, played three games and made two starts for the Saints earlier this season. New Orleans waived him before Sunday's game against the Panthers.

Manhertz posted four catches for 46 yards during the preseason but has not yet recorded a catch in a regular season game.

Young replaced tight end Scott Simonson on the active roster last week to provide depth for the Panthers at cornerback with James Bradberry and Robert McClain sidelined due to injury. Both could return to the lineup after Carolina's bye week.
