CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have claimed defensive tackle Toby Johnson off waivers from the Vikings.

To make room on the 90-man roster, Carolina waived linebacker Kyle Kragen, one of three invited tryouts the team added after its recent rookie minicamp.

The 6-4, 325-pound Johnson saw his first NFL action late last season with the Vikings, recording two tackles in two games. Undrafted out of the University of Georgia in 2015, Johnson had stints on practice squads with Jacksonville, Chicago and Minnesota as a rookie.

The Vikings initially signed Johnson to their practice squad days before their NFC Wild Card game prior to the end of the 2015 season, and he spent most of last season on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster.
