The Carolina Panthers have exercised the fifth-year option on quarterback Cam Newton's rookie contract. Newton is now under contract through the 2015 season.
Newton has started all 48 games played in his three NFL seasons, completing 882-of-1,475 passes (59.8 percent) for 11,299 yards and 64 touchdowns. He has rushed for 2,032 yards and 28 touchdowns.
In 2013, Newton established career highs in completion percentage (61.7 percent), passing touchdowns (24) and passer rating (88.8). He added six rushing touchdowns.
