Panthers reduce roster to 74

CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have released punter Mike Scifres and safety Trenton Robinson and placed injury designations on three others to reduce the roster to 74 prior to Tuesday's 75-man deadline.

Wide receiver LaRon Byrd (concussion) and defensive end Rakim Cox (back) have been placed on injured reserve. Cornerback Leonard Johnson (ankle) has been moved to the reserve/non-football injury list, which means he's out for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Moving forward, the Panthers must cut 21 players to reach the 53-man roster limit by Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline.
