CHARLOTTE – The Panthers' captains for the 2014 season are linebacker Thomas Davis, defensive end Charles Johnson, center Ryan Kalil, linebacker Luke Kuechly, quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen. Team captains are voted upon by the players.

"We let them pick who they wanted and it just happened to be three offense and three defense," head coach Ron Rivera said. "The credibility is there. Their teammates see them as guys they want leading them."

This will be Davis' fourth year as a captain. Newton, Kuechly and Kalil were first-time captains in 2013. Johnson was appointed a captain by Rivera midway through the 2012 season as an injury replacement.

This is the first time Olsen has been a captain.
