CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have signed cornerback James Dockery and placed tight end Richie Brockel, who suffered a right ankle injury at Baltimore in Week 4, on injured reserve.

Dockery previously spent time with Carolina in 2012 and 2013 before being released in the final roster cutdown in 2014. During those two seasons, he played in 12 games with two starts and posted 20 tackles and two passes defensed.

In 2013, Dockery played in five games before being placed on injured reserve with an injured left shoulder. He notched three tackles and one pass defensed. Dockery played in seven games with two starts in 2012, recording 17 tackles and one pass defensed.

Dockery provides depth at cornerback, which is needed as a result of recent injuries at the position. Sunday against the Bears, Josh Norman suffered a concussion and shoulder injury, and Bene Benwikere sustained an ankle injury.
