Panthers sign DT Kearse

CHARLOTTE - The Panthers added some more bulk to their defensive front, signing 325-pound defensive tackle Frank Kearse off the Miami Dolphins' practice squad Tuesday.

The Panthers now have five defensive tackles on their 53-man roster after entering the season with three. They added veteran Ronald Fields last week.

Kearse, nicknamed "Big Spoon," was scooped up by the Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Alabama A&M. A four-year starter, Kearse twice was a second-team All-Southwestern Atlantic Conference selection. In 44 games, he recorded 127 tackles with six sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles.

To make room for Kearse, the Panthers released offensive lineman Reggie Wells, who was inactive versus Green Bay last Sunday after signing as a free agent Sept. 13.
