CHARLOTTE – The Panthers continued tweaking the roster Monday, adding their third new player in the last week with the signing of rookie wide receiver Hubert Anyiam.

Last Tuesday, Carolina claimed running back Armond Smith off waivers and then signed free agent tight end Joe Jon Finley on Wednesday.

Anyiam signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent after the 2012 NFL Draft but was recently waived.

He played in 42 games at Oklahoma State, catching 83 passes for 1,052 yards and nine touchdowns. His senior season was cut short by a broken bone in his left foot midway through the year, and he missed several games as a junior because of an ankle injury.

Anyiam, a 6-0, 204-pounder, stayed healthy in 2009 and led a Cowboys team that included Justin Blackmon with 42 catches for 515 yards.

To make room for Anyiam on the 90-man roster, the Panthers waived defensive tackle Jason Shirley. He played in the Panthers' final four games last season and produced 2.5 sacks after spending a month on the practice squad.
