CHARLOTTE – Make that two Charles Johnsons on the Panthers.

Days after signing veteran defensive end Charles Johnson to a two-year extension, the Panthers have signed former Vikings wide receiver Charles Johnson to a one-year deal.

Johnson, 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, spent his first three seasons with Minnesota, posting 60 receptions for 834 yards and two touchdowns over that span. He's known for his tremendous speed, an attribute he believes will be an asset for quarterback Cam Newton and the Carolina offense.

"Me and my agent were talking about it for a long time," Johnson said. "He said, 'Man, you're really fast and Cam Newton has a really strong arm. If those two intersect, it can be a good thing.'

"I think this will be a good place for me, so I made the choice. I'm just looking to come here and show everyone I'm capable of making big plays."
