Panthers to hold drumline auditions

REGISTER NOW FOR 2012 DRUMLINE AUDITIONS

The Carolina Panthers will hold auditions for their 2012 drumline - PurrCussion - on May 12 at Bank of America Stadium.

A part of the gameday experience at Bank of America Stadium, PurrCussion performs at every home game, including on-field for player introductions. The drumline also is visible in communities throughout the Carolinas, entertaining fans at charitable and corporate events.

PurrCussion features a combination of groove, chops, visuals, choreography and high energy, making themselves enjoyable to fans of all ages. The ensemble consists of snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums and cymbal players.

LOCATION
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, N.C. Please click here for directions. Enter Bank of America Stadium off of Morehead Street. Once parked, follow signs to the audition entrance.

FORMAT
Preliminaries - Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with auditions starting at 10 a.m. Snare, tenor and bass drum candidates should prepare a solo performance up to one (1) minute. Those auditioning on cymbals will receive basic technique and performance instruction prior to auditioning. Preliminary auditions will be based on musicianship, presentation and showmanship. Those selected will return for semifinals.

Semifinals - Contestants will perform a piece taught by the PurrCussion instructors. Those selected will return for finals.

Finals - Finals will consist of an interview, meeting, two rehearsals and competition, which are all mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS
• All contestants must be at least 21 years old by May 12, 2012.
• All contestants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• All contestants must pass a pre-employment and periodic drug screen as well as satisfactorily complete a criminal and civil background check, including driving history.
• Those selected must be available to practice every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in June.
• In addition to rehearsals and performing at home games, PurrCussion makes charitable and corporate appearances.
• Please note this is a part-time position that drumline members hold in addition to their regular work or college schedules.

REGISTRATION
Completion of the registration form below is required to audition for PurrCussion. The registration deadline is Friday, May 11, 2012 by 5 p.m.

AUDITION ATTIRE
Contestants should wear attire suitable for performances. Restrooms will be available; however, there will be no formal changing facilities.

WHAT TO BRING
Drums and cymbals will be provided, but contestants should bring sticks and a practice pad. Additionally, concession stands will not be open. Contestants should supply their own snacks and beverages.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Auditions are CLOSED to the public. Only contestants will be allowed inside the stadium. No video cameras are permitted.

Question: Is being a Carolina Panthers drumline member a full-time job?
Answer: No. Being a PurrCussionist is a part-time commitment. Most members hold other full-time jobs or attend college.

Question: Do I have to relocate to the Charlotte area if selected as a PurrCussionist?
Answer: No. We are proud to have PurrCussionists living in North and South Carolina.

Question: Are there any age requirements?
Answer: Yes, all contestants must meet the minimum age requirement, which is 21 years old by May 12, 2012. There is no maximum age limit.

Question: Is there a cost to audition?
Answer: There is no fee to audition on May 12. However, pre-registration is required.

Question: If I make the drumline, what type of time commitment is required?
Answer: From June through the end of the season, PurrCussion rehearses weekly with practices on Sunday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. PurrCussion performs at all Panthers home games and also makes charity and corporate appearances throughout the season.
