Proehl to serve as offensive consultant

!

CHARLOTTE - Ricky Proehl, a key cog in the Panthers passing game when the team made its Super Bowl run eight years ago, is back with Carolina as an offensive consultant.

Proehl will work primarily with wide receivers coach Fred Graves.

Proehl played wide receiver for the Panthers from 2003-05, catching 86 passes for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. He contributed to two playoff teams, catching a touchdown pass in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

All told, he played 17 NFL seasons with six different teams, totaling 669 receptions for 8,878 yards and 54 touchdowns.

Proehl reached the Super Bowl four times, earning a championship ring with the St. Louis Rams and the Indianapolis Colts. In his two Super Bowl losses, with the Panthers and Rams, Proehl caught game-tying touchdowns in the final two minutes.

Prior to his pro days, Proehl starred at Wake Forest from 1986-89, where he still holds the school records for receiving yards (2,949) and receiving touchdowns (25). The Phoenix Cardinals picked in the third round of the 1990 draft.

This is the first foray into coaching for Proehl, who lives in Greensboro, N.C., and owns Proehlific Park, a state-of-the-art sports complex.
