CHARLOTTE – The Panthers were missing a half-dozen starters at Wednesday's practice but head coach Ron Rivera wasn't yet willing to speculate about their status for Sunday's NFC South showdown with the Saints.

Linebacker Thomas Davis (hamstring), wide receiver Devin Funchess (toe), running back Christian McCaffrey (shoulder), tight end Greg Olsen (foot), defensive end Julius Peppers (rest) and cornerback Daryl Worley (foot) did not participate.

On Monday, Funchess blamed the turf at MetLife Stadium for the injury he suffered against the Jets. Rivera said something similar about Worley's foot, which wound up in a walking boot.

"I think a little bit had to do with the surface we played on," Rivera said.

"We had some guys that came off with sore feet."

Safety Mike Adams (knee), center Ryan Kalil (neck), quarterback Cam Newton (right thumb /right shoulder) and linebacker Shaq Thompson (foot) were limited in practice. Cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, who missed all of last week with an illness, was a full participant
