Will Panthers be back in black?

The Panthers will wear black jerseys six times during the 2013 regular season, but any plans to pair them with black pants have yet to be made.

In wake of the positive response from fans and players since the Panthers debuted black pants in a Week 10 home game last year, equipment manager Jackie Miles said the Panthers "want to use the black pants more" but that no decisions have been made at this early juncture.

NFL teams must determine their jersey colors prior to the season but don't have to make any announcements regarding accompanying pant colors.

"Wearing black-on-black was a little bit outside of our box, but it went over very well," Miles said. "It has to be Mr. (Jerry) Richardson's call and (team president) Danny Morrison's call. We'd have to talk about it.

"Unless that happens, we would stay white-on-white and black-on-silver. If we go black pants, it would probably be with black jerseys."

In addition to the positive reaction to the all-black look last season, the fan vote in a 64-uniform bracket on NFL.com last month concluded with the Panthers' black-on-black combination being declared the "Greatest Uniform in NFL History."

"I thought it was a nice pat on the back to the organization and to our look," Miles said. "We want to cater to our fans, plus our players love it too. They were pretty excited when we broke them out the first time.

"But we're a modern conservative organization, and we want to look that way."

The Panthers will wear black for their final four home games as well as road games against Buffalo (Week 2) and Miami (Week 12). They'll wear white in their first two home games and their alternate blue jersey in their next two home games. NFL teams are allowed to wear their alternate jersey twice during the regular season but not at all during the preseason, when the Panthers will wear white three times and black once.

"We always try to look very professional," Miles said. "We really want to dress up in our Sunday best."

In regular season games, the Panthers are 79-92 all-time in white jerseys, 44-52 in black jerseys and 9-12 in blue jerseys.
