Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, presented by Bank of America

The Carolina Panthers are excited to provide students and schools in our region the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee through the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, presented by Bank of America which will be held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Who's Eligible?

Public, independent, charter and home-school students up to 8th grade in our program's sponsored counties/ districts in North and South Carolina. To find out if your school is in our sponsored area, please login to your Scripps' Spelling Bee Portal.

Public School districts will need to host their district-level spelling bees by February 13th, 2026. School bees should plan accordingly. 

North Carolina: The first-place winner from the district-level bee will earn a seat at the 2026 Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America in March. Wake County Public Schools and Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools should contact Anne Wood for information pertaining to the champion submission. The second-place winner will serve as an alternate in the case where the first-place winner cannot come. No alternates will be substituted after February 23rd, 2026.

South Carolina: The top 5 from each district in SC will earn a seat at the 2026 Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America in March.

Charter Schools, Private/Independent, Homeschools should refer to the information on their Bee Portal or see below. This year, we will continue to host our qualifying level through OTP, Scripp's Online Testing Platform.  

Who qualifies for the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America?

One (1) champion/ representative from each public-school district (WCPS & Charlotte-Mecklenburg will have additional seats) in North and South Carolina is eligible to advance to the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.

The Top 3 from each Online Test Platform for Charter Schools, Independent/Private & Homeschools will advance to the Regional Bee. Participants will be notified after the window closes via email from Anne Wood.

Yes, Scripps will provide the top four (4) finishers in the Carolina Panthers North Carolina Regional Bee presented by Bank of America invitations to advance to the National Bee. Scripps will provide the South Carolina champion and runner-up of the Carolina Panthers Regional Bee presented by Bank of America a spot in the National Bee.

-- Is there a registration fee?

The registration fee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee program is $199 per school. There is no additional fee required for the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.

-- What are the key dates?

January. 31, 2025: All NC & SC Homeschool, Charter School & Private/Independent School Champions submitted for the Online Testing Platform via the Scripps Spelling Bee Portal.

February 9-13: Online Testing Platform open for regional-qualifying test for private, charter, homeschool champions. 

February. 13, 2025: All NC & SC Public School District Champions submitted via the Microsoft Form link (Form link is available in your Scripps Spelling Bee Portal).

February. 28th, 2026: South Carolina Regional Spelling Bee at Bank of America Stadium

March 1st, 2026: North Carolina Regional Spelling Bee at Bank of America Stadium

In some areas, school enrollment ends earlier than January 31.

How will I know what words to use at my school's Spelling Bee?

Scripps National Spelling Bee will provide your school's Spelling Bee coordinator a list of words to use for your school's Bee. Public school districts will request their pronouncer's guide via the Microsoft Form in your Scripps Spelling Bee Portal.

Private/ Independent Schools

Charter, Independent, and Home Schools will submit their winners via the Google Form. The champions will compete in a Zoom "district-level" bee. One representative from the Charters, Independent, and Home Schools from North Carolina will advance to the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.
