Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, presented by Bank of America

The Carolina Panthers are excited to provide students and schools in our region the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee through the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee, presented by Bank of America which will be held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

--Who's Eligible?

Public, independent, charter and home-school students in grades 3-8 in the listed designated counties/ districts in North and South Carolina. Please refer to the below list of North and South Carolina counties/school districts that qualify to participate in the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America. If your county or school district is not listed, then you are eligible to participate in a different regional Spelling Bee.

School districts will need to host their district-level spelling bees by February 18th, 2022. School bees should plan accordingly. The first place winner from the district-level bee will earn a seat at the 2022 Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America in March. The second place winner will serve as an alternate in the case where the first place winner can not come. No alternates will be substituted after March 11th, 2022.

--Who qualifies for the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America?

One (1) champion/ representative from each school district in North and South Carolina is eligible to advance to the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.

--How do I register for the Scripps National Spelling Bee?

--Do winners of the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.?

Yes, Scripps will provide the top four (4) finishers in the Carolina Panthers North Carolina Regional Bee presented by Bank of America invitations to advance to the National Bee. Scripps will provide the South Carolina champion and runner-up of the Carolina Panthers Regional Bee presented by Bank of America a spot in the National Bee.

--Is there a registration fee?

The registration fee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee program is $175 per school. There is no additional fee required for the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.

--What are the key dates?

Dec. 31, 2021: Scripps school registration deadline
Feb. 16, 2021: School and district Bees completed
Feb. 18, 2022: Deadline to submit DISTRICT winner's name, school, grade, age, t-shirt size and photo to: annewood@pamlicoschools.org

Dates for the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America will be determined by Jan. 1, 2022.

--How will I know what words to use at my school's Spelling Bee?

Scripps National Spelling Bee will provide your school's Spelling Bee coordinator a list of words to use for your school's Bee.

--Is there a plan in case COVID-19 affects the 2022 Bee?

Yes. While we remain hopeful the Bee will take place in person, Scripps has provided guidance on how to host your Bee virtually. Registered schools can find an on-line platform to host their Bees at www.spellingbee.com. Should health guidelines mandate, there is a virtual plan for the Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.

Home Schools

Home Schools

Home schools and Homeschool Co-op groups in North and South Carolina will need to submit their school winners & alternate's (2nd place) information. Home school winners will compete in a "district-level" Zoom competition against each other in order to determine which student will represent their respective state.

The Zoom bees are scheduled for:

  • February 10, 2022 for North Carolina champions
  • February 11, 2022 for South Carolina champions

Charter Schools

Charter schools in North and South Carolina will need to submit their school winners & alternate's (2nd place) information. Charter school winners will compete in a "district-level" Zoom competition against each other in order to determine which student will represent their respective state at The Carolina Panthers Regional Spelling Bee presented by Bank of America.

The Zoom bees are scheduled for:

  • February 14, 2022 for North Carolina champions
  • February 15, 2022 for South Carolina champions

The Independent school Zoom bees are scheduled for:

  • February 16, 2022 for North Carolina champions
  • February 17, 2022 for South Carolina champions
