Coaches, players bring Super Bowl experience

Nineteen members of the Panthers coaching staff and roster have previously participated in a Super Bowl.

Nineteen Panthers coaches and players will enter Super Bowl 50 with previous Super Bowl experience, combining to participate in 29 games.

Seven coaches have earned Super Bowl rings, while three players have won rings. Head coach Ron Rivera, assistant offensive line coach Ray Brown and wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl will each be seeking to add a Super Bowl championship as a coach to prior victories as players.

COACHES - 11

Ron Rivera - Head Coach: Participated in two Super Bowls, one as a player and one as a coach...Played linebacker and recorded two tackles for the Chicago Bears in their Super Bowl XX victory against the New England Patriots...Served as defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in their Super Bowl XLI loss against the Indianapolis Colts.

Steve Wilks - Assistant Head Coach/Secondary: Served as defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears in their Super Bowl XLI loss against the Indianapolis Colts.

Bruce DeHaven - Special Teams Coordinator: Participated in four Super Bowls...Served as special teams coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV against the New York Giants, Super Bowl XXVI against the Washington Redskins, Super Bowl XXVII against the Dallas Cowboys and Super Bowl XXVIII against the Dallas Cowboys...Bills lost all four games.

Sean McDermott - Defensive Coordinator: Served as secondary/safeties coach for the Philadelphia Eagles in their Super Bowl XXXIX loss against the New England Patriots.

Ray Brown - Assistant Offensive Line: Member of the Washington Redskins' Super Bowl XXVI championship team...Guard spent the entire 1991 season on injured reserve.

Curtis Fuller - Assistant Special Teams/Nickel Backs: Served as coaching administrator for the Green Bay Packers in their Super Bowl XLV victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Al Holcomb - Linebackers: Served as a defensive assistant for the New York Giants in their Super Bowl XLVI victory against the New England Patriots.

John Matsko - Offensive Line: Participated in two Super Bowls...Served as offensive line coach for the St. Louis Rams in their Super Bowl XXXIV victory against the Tennessee Titans and their Super Bowl XXXVI loss against the New England Patriots.

Ricky Proehl - Wide Receivers: Member of four Super Bowl teams as a wide receiver...Posted one reception for 11 yards for the St. Louis Rams in their Super Bowl XXXIV victory against the Tennessee Titans...Recorded three catches for 71 yards and one touchdown for the St. Louis Rams in their Super Bowl XXXVI loss against the New England Patriots...Notched four receptions for 71 yards and one touchdown for the Carolina Panthers in their Super Bowl XXXVIII loss against the New England Patriots...Inactive for the Indianapolis Colts in their Super Bowl XLI victory against the Chicago Bears.

Russ Purnell - Assistant Special Teams: Participated in two Super Bowls...Served as special teams coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens in their Super Bowl XXXV victory against the New York Giants...Served as special teams coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts in their Super Bowl XLI victory against the Chicago Bears.

WR Ted Ginn, Jr.: Played wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers in their Super Bowl XLVII loss against the Baltimore Ravens...Returned one punt for 32 yards and one kickoff for 31 yards.

S Roman Harper: Started at strong safety for the New Orleans Saints in their Super Bowl XLIV victory against the Indianapolis Colts...Recorded eight tackles and two passes defensed.

DT Kyle Love: Started at defensive tackle for the New England Patriots in their Super Bowl XLVI loss against the New York Giants...Recorded one tackle.

WR Kevin Norwood: Wide receiver was inactive for the Seattle Seahawks in their Super Bowl XLIX loss against the New England Patriots.

T Michael Oher: Started at right tackle for the Baltimore Ravens in their Super Bowl XLVII victory against the San Francisco 49ers.
