Kawann Short upgraded to questionable

Kawann Short

CHARLOTTE -- Defensive tackle Kawann Short (calf) has been upgraded to doubtful for Monday night's game against the Saints.

The injury occurred during Thursday's practice and Short didn't practice Friday or Saturday. Head coach Ron Rivera said after Saturday's practice that the Panthers won't know until Monday morning whether Short will be available.

If Short can't play, defensive tackle Vernon Butler will have a role to play after being among the inactives each of the last two weeks. Defensive end Wes Horton would also get more time inside.

Kicker Graham Gano (knee) is out for the second consecutive week, meaning Chandler Catanzaro will again step in and handle kicking duties.

The Panthers trail the all-time series against the Saints, 27-29. Carolina has played New Orleans more than any other team in its history.
