Thomas Davis follows through on pledge to help Da'Shawn Ivey

CHARLOTTE -- Thomas Davis said he was going to help Da'Shawn Ivey, the eighth grader who suffered a serious spinal injury playing football.

He's a man of his word.

On Wednesday, Davis visited Ivey and his mother at the hospital and presented a check for $50,000. Davis said the following teammates made financial contributions: Ryan Kalil, Trai Turner, Captain Munnerlyn, Julius Peppers and Kawann Short.

Davis first met Ivey a few weeks ago and was inspired by his upbeat attitude.

"He's not a kid sitting in the hospital right now feeling sorry for himself," Davis said. "He's faced with some tough circumstances, but he has a positive outlook on it all and he's excited about regaining his strength and the ability to walk again."
