Week 9 Thursday Injury Report: Sam Darnold still limited

InjuryReport-week9_thursday

CHARLOTTE — Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold was again a limited participant in practice Thursday, as he recovers from a concussion and shoulder injury suffered last week against the Falcons.

Darnold stood around with coaches during the portion of practice open to reporters, talking to offensive coordinator Joe Brady and quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan.

If he's not cleared through the protocol, backup P.J. Walker would start Sunday against the Patriots.

In other injury news, wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. has cleared the concussion protocol, after he missed the previous two games, so he's no longer listed on the report.

Cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver III did not participate Thursday with a toe injury. He was listed as limited on Wednesday. He's a key member of their special teams, as well as providing depth at their deepest position.

Guard Pat Elflein, who was activated to the roster Wednesday after missing the last six games with a hamstring, was listed as a full participant.

Otherwise, everyone else listed on the report was a full participant in Thursday's practice, including cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore (quad) and CJ Henderson (shoulder), linebackers Shaq Thompson (foot) and Jermaine Carter Jr. (ankle), left tackle Cameron Erving (knee), and center Matt Paradis (knee).

Thompson was limited Wednesday, so he's obviously recovering well from the foot issue which cost him three games.

Running back Christian McCaffrey was again on the practice field during the portion open to the media. He's been designated to return from IR but hasn't been activated yet, so he's not listed on the report.
