CHARLOTTE – The Panthers have placed Fozzy Whittaker on injured reserve with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The running back suffered the injury Monday in a non-contact, on-field drill during Phase 2 of the offseason program.

Whittaker played 43 games for the Panthers the past four seasons, rushing 121 times for 536 yards and catching 47 passes for 397 yards. He scored four touchdowns and also contributed on kickoff returns.

The Panthers are now down to four running backs on the active roster: Christian McCaffrey, Cameron Artis-Payne and new additions C.J. Anderson and Elijah Hood. Undrafted running back Reggie Bonnafon is expected to sign his contract before the Panthers' two-day rookie minicamp kicks off Friday.
