CHARLOTTE - A knee injury will keep wide receiver Torrey Smith from suiting up against the team that drafted him.

Smith is out for Sunday's game against the Ravens with a knee injury that kept him out of practice all week. Smith has missed just four games in a career that dates back to 2011, when Baltimore selected him in the second round of the draft. Smith has started every game in his first season with Carolina, ranking second among Panthers wide receivers behind fellow starter Devin Funchess in catches with 16 and touchdown receptions with two.

"We knew there was very, very little chance, but he has gotten better," head coach Ron Rivera said. "The guy who has gotten a lot (of reps in practice) has really been Damiere (Byrd) because that is Damiere's position. But obviously you're going to see an increased number for DJ (Moore) and an increased number for Curtis (Samuel)."

Linebacker Andre Smith (hamstring) is also listed out and will miss his third consecutive game. Safety Rashaan Gaulden hasn't practiced since arriving Thursday with an ankle concern and is listed as doubtful.

Quarterback Cam Newton (right shoulder) was limited for the third consecutive day but threw some during a rainy practice Friday and isn't listed on the final injury report.
