Four Takeaways from Tuesday's Practice

HEADACHE SENDS JANSEN TO DOCTOR: Long snapper JJ Jansen was limited in practice Tuesday with a head injury, opening up the possibility that the Panthers could need to look outside the building for a long snapper for Thursday's game at the Dallas Cowboys.

"He's actually going to see the doctor. He had a headache this morning, and we were a little concerned," head coach Ron Rivera said. "He said he took a shot in the game (Sunday against Washington).

"If he were in the (concussion) protocol, we would probably seriously consider finding somebody."

That's because Rivera said the Panthers' emergency long snappers are defensive end Jared Allen and tight ends Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson.

Jansen, a Pro Bowl selection following the 2013 season, has played in every game since joining the Panthers in 2009.

TILLMAN, BROWN LIMITED: Cornerback Charles Tillman (knee) was limited in practice Tuesday after not practicing Monday, while wide receiver Philly Brown (shoulder) was limited for the second consecutive day. Both missed the Washington game, and their status for the Cowboys game remains in question.

Guard Andrew Norwell fully participated in practice for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him the last two games. He is expected to start against the Cowboys. Defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (ankle) missed practice for the second straight day.

ALEXANDER SUSPENDED: Defensive end Frank Alexander has been suspended without pay for a minimum of one year for violating the NFL policy and program for substances of abuse.

A fourth-round draft pick from Oklahoma, Alexander was placed on injured reserve after injuring his right Achilles tendon in Carolina's second preseason game. He served suspensions of four and 10 games last season under the same policy and played in just one game.

P-SQUAD SHIFT: The Panthers re-signed guard Reese Dismukes one day after parting ways with him and terminated offensive tackle Pierce Burton from the practice squad.
