Winner for Week 3: Ed Swanson
Our Home Opener "That Deserves a Crown" honoree is a true American hero whose dedication to service spans both military and civilian life.
Ed Swanson served 21 years as a U.S. Air Force Officer and Aviator, flying KC-135 refueling tankers and completing combat and support missions in Bosnia and Iraq. His leadership roles included Squadron Commander at the Air Force Academy and Company Commander at West Point, where he helped shape the character and ethics of our nation's future military leaders.
After retiring from active duty, he continued his mission of service: volunteering as a crisis counselor and housing case manager with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries. Over the past several years, Ed has helped thousands of North Carolinians access food, shelter, and long-term housing. Today, he serves as a case manager at the Veterans Restoration Quarters, working directly with formerly homeless veterans to rebuild their lives through housing, health care, and job training.
