Panthers GM Scott Fitterer continues to work the phones

Scott Fitterer

CHARLOTTE — "In on every deal" means in on every deal.

And Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer continues to work the phones, living up to the mantra he walked in the door repeating.

Acquiring defensive end Darryl Johnson from the Bills Monday was the 11th trade Fitterer has presided over since becoming GM in January.

That's the same number of trades the Panthers made in 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined.

That includes the dizzying five deals on draft weekend alone. (That does not, however, include his swindling of the digital team, which involved all our doughnuts.)

Here's a look at the 11 deals so far. And, as we like to say around here, it's early yet:

April 5 — Traded a 2021 sixth-rounder (226th overall), along with second- and fourth-round picks in 2022 to the Jets in exchange for quarterback Sam Darnold .

April 28 — Traded quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the Broncos in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round pick (191).

April 30 — Traded second- and fifth-round picks (39, 151) to the Bears in exchange for second-, third-, and sixth-round selections (52, 83, and 204).

April 30 — Traded second- and fourth-round picks (52, 113) to the Browns in exchange for second- and third-round picks (59, 89).

April 30 — Traded third- and sixth-round picks (73, 191) to the Eagles in exchange for a third-rounder (70).

April 30 — Traded a third-round pick (89) to the Texans in exchange for fourth- and fifth-round picks in 2021 (109, 158) and the Rams' 2022 fourth-rounder.

May 1 — Traded a fourth-round pick (109) to the Titans in exchange for fourth-, fifth-, and seventh-round picks (126, 166, 232).

Aug. 17 — Traded tackle Greg Little to the Dolphins for a 2022 seventh-round pick (the higher of the Titans' or Patriots' picks).

Aug. 25 — Traded linebacker Denzel Perryman and their 2022 seventh-rounder to the Raiders for a 2022 sixth-rounder.

Aug. 26 — Traded a conditional 2022 seventh-round pick (the former Miami pick) to the Giants for kicker Ryan Santoso. The condition on the deal is that Santoso plays two regular-season games here.

Aug. 30 — Traded a 2022 sixth-rounder (the higher of their own or the Raiders') to the Bills for defensive end Darryl Johnson.

WHAT THEY HAVE LEFT AFTER ALL THAT

At the moment (and again, it's early yet), the Panthers have the following picks in 2022:

— Their own first-rounder

— Their own third-rounder

— The Rams' fourth-rounder from the Houston trade

— Their own fifth-rounder

— Either their own or the Raiders' sixth-rounder (the higher goes to the Bills).

They also have the Bills' 2023 seventh-rounder from a deal for linebacker Andre Smith, but oddly enough, Fitterer had nothing to do with that.
