Football Mom 101

About 200 Moms representing more than 60 schools and athletic associations arrived at Bank of America Stadium on Aug. 20 to take part in Football Mom 101 presented by OrthoCarolina.

Prior to the event's kickoff, Moms were treated to breakfast and a SIR-prise visit from Carolina Panthers' team mascot, Sir Purr.

Sue Doran, director of athletics for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, was in attendance to co-host the event and educate youth, middle and high school Moms on the basics of football.

Referees Josh Fath and Karl Logan of RCB Sports, Inc., taught Moms the rules of the game, including downs, scoring, field features, game clock, penalties and signals.

Moms received an interactive lesson on downs from Josh and Karl.

Moms were excited to receive Coach Bass Sports Maps - the ultimate 16-page guide to the secrets of football.

Mike Palmieri, head football coach at Mallard Creek High School, schooled Moms on equipment, uniforms, nutrition and practice schedules.

Two Moms faced off in the "Dress Like a Pro" competition.

After a heated competition between Moms, Coach Palmieri took a few minutes to explain the uniform.

Dr. Dana Piasecki, an OrthoCarolina surgeon, spoke about treating common football bumps and bruises with "RICE" (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation).

Stephanie Rivera, wife of Panthers coach Ron Rivera, shared her stories as a Football Mom (and wife) and provided tips for preparing student-athletes for life after high school.

Moms were given the opportunity to ask specific questions of each guest.
