Inactives: Kawann Short inactive vs. Falcons

CHARLOTTE - Defensive tackle Kawann Short, given a good shot at playing by head coach Ron Rivera on Friday, is inactive for Sunday's home finale against the Falcons. The 2013 second-round draft choice will miss a game for the first time in his career.

Short suffered a calf injury in practice prior to Carolina's game against the Saints in Week 15 but recovered in time to play. Short's absence left room for defensive end Efe Obada return to the active list after a one-game absence.

With Shaq Thompson being placed on injured reserve on Thursday, rookie linebacker Andre Smith is active for the first time since Week 5.

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, considered a game-time decision with a hip injury, is active.
